In which our hero talks nonsense about Manic Street Preachers
In this podcast I speak about one of my favourite bands that I haven't engaged with for nearly 20 years...Manic Street Preachers
I talk about what turned me onto them in the mid 90s and why I stopped listening to their new releases and how that was a massive mistake
No Manifesto ….. The Documentary that got me all razzed up again!
A couple of extracts from the podcast….
On “The Holy Bible”
I got The Holy Bible with some birthday money when I was 15 and I just couldn't believe what I was hearing....I'd never heard a record like it, I don't think I have since. Its 30 years later and I still don't know how to describe it...its so bleak and desperate and angry and beautiful and sincere and intimate and rightly or wrongly it’s what I judged every single Manics album against……
On “Lifeblood”……
Lifeblood to these 45 year old ears is a great record and has jumped up to near the top of my Manics rankings (which is another podacst for another day) yes The Love of Richard Nixon is still terrible but Live to Fall Asleep is amazing, Empty Souls is great, Glasnost is fucking beautiful and To Repel Ghosts is one of favourite Manics songs of all time...crazy turnaround and I'm cross that I didn't persevere and missed having this for the last 20 years
Let me know what you think about the “Newest” Manic Street Preachers records…you know the ones released since 2004! Or alternatively which bands have you loved and then just stopped listening to…I have a few others I might speak about in future podcasts but put yours in the comments
